Magen David Star Pattern

Ruler Help:     1 – EZ Acrylic Quilting Jelly Roll Ruler – Mini Triangle 60 degrees

 

Cut:

 

7  -      Triangles in each of Blue, Purple, Red, Orange, Yellow ,Green(from 2 ½” squares of fabric/strips/scrap)

6  -      Triangles in  White or chosen background color

3          4 ½ “ Width of Fabric (WOF) strips on Background color

                        : :Sub-cut Strips into the following lengths:

 

                                    A:   2 – 21” Strips

                                    B:   4 – 10 1/2” Strips

                                    C:   4 – 6” strips        

            Create 60 degree angles on the ends B strips and C strips as shown:

Note:  Leave Wrong Sides Together when cutting the strips.  You will have                                                                      

2 – B1 and 2 – B2 pieces as well as  2 – C1 and 2 – C2 – see below

*Using starch while pressing the fabric helps stabilizing those bias cut edges but you can also get your glue basting skills ready to replace pinning and keep them in place as well!

Assembly:

1.              Using a design surface, lay out pieces as shown above.  I like the darkest to lightest while approaching the neighboring color but your eye will tell you when you are happy with the layout.

2.         Now look at the design as if it were rows.  Beginning with the second row (B)containing the highest point of the star,  glue-baste/pin then sew row together.  Press. Repeat for remaining rows.

3.         Sew each row together creating star.  Add top and bottom background strips.

4.         Trim to desired dimensions.

5.         Shalom!
